Hello Centrals Families,
On behalf of the Club I would like to welcome everyone back as we embark on another big season of cricket.
During the winter the club has been busy – forming our own Ashes “fightback”. With the successful delivery of a new “state of the art” practice net facility and the assembly of a keen and dedicated junior coaching team, I believe we are in a great position to see all teams succeed.
This season we will have teams in the Under 12 modified, Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 16’s in the South Eastern Cricket Association (formerly City of Moorabbin Cricket Association). The T20 Blast and Milo in2Cricket Programs are also scheduled to continue as the introductory programs into cricket.
Based on our player numbers and age groups from last season, all teams look solid in playing numbers. With this in mind we are careful to register returning players, before taking new registrations. This gives all of our loyal returning players the first opportunity to be part of the up and coming season. In order to assist the Club in confirming numbers, we ask that you confirm your child’s intention to play or not play, in the coming weeks.
For those unsure which age group or team they may be earmarked, all players from last season will soon receive an email from the Coach/ Manager of their intended team for this season, likely training dates, etc.
At this pre-season stage the key Coaches/ Managers for each of the age groups and teams are as follows:
Under 12 Modified – Saturday mornings
Coach: Nick MacMillan.
Assistant: Rob Brown.
Under 12 – Saturday mornings
Manager/Coach: Mark Alston.
Coach: Alex Bastable (Visiting Senior Player from Old Elizabethans, England).
Assistants: Simon O’Neill, Angus Hamilton.
Under 14 – Friday twilight
Coach: Craig Amoore.
Manager/ Assistant Coach: Sean Crisp.
Under 16 – Friday twilight
Hampton Central / Hampton United combined.
Coach/Team Manager: Darcy Turner (Hampton United).
Assistant: Trevor Layzell.
Again, although we have some key coaches in place, the Junior Club is keen to have as many parents as possible involved. Please feel free to ring me or one of the coaches if you are able to assist in a coaching/ management role, or indeed another role around the Club. The Club is keen to support as many junior parents as possible to attain coaching accreditations and of course to have an input in the running of junior cricket.
In the build up to the season proper, some skills and registration sessions are planned and the complete training schedule will be advised shortly by the respective Team Managers/ Coaches. The Junior Fixture Dates will come through in the next few weeks, with the first games likely to be the second weekend in October.
Also, for our older Under 14’s and 16’s we are entering a lower grade Senior Team for them to play with some of our “experienced” Seniors. This is a great forum to hone skills and will provide an opportunity for a few father and sons to have a game together; a great tradition at the Centrals.
The Club has some exciting new events planned for the season and we hope to involve all families in as many as possible. Also, the Club’s ongoing relationship with the Old Elizabethans in Worcester continues. This season we are set to have two Senior Players come out and spend the season playing and enjoying the Melbourne summer. With this arrangement the Club organises accommodation and provides some “casual” work, where possible. The Club would be most appreciative if any members or families could assist with some casual work. If you’ve got that messy or timely chore, please keep our young Englishman in mind.
If you wish to discuss any aspects of the coming Season, please do not hesitate to call me on 0407816896.
