Juniors Season 2014/15

Hello Centrals Families,

Hopefully everyone is surviving this late winter onslaught and is looking forward to spring and the start of a new cricket season.

During the last few months some key figures in the Junior Club have been meeting and putting plans in place for an organized and productive start to the new season.  Again, I believe we are in a fantastic position with many families keen to assist, much enthusiasm from our returning Juniors, combined with able assistance from our Senior Club.

For those in Under 16s and 14s this season coming, hopefully you should have received notice from Craig Amoore regarding the upcoming season and some pre-season activities.  For everyone else in the Junior Club welcome back!!

This season we are planning to have teams in the Under 12 rookies (modified form), Under 12’s (two teams), Under 14’s and Under 16’s in the South Eastern Cricket Association (formerly City of Moorabbin Cricket Association).  The T20 Blast and Milo in2Cricket Programs are also scheduled to continue as the introductory programs into cricket.

Based on our player numbers and age groups from last season, nearly all teams look solid in playing numbers.   With this in mind we are careful to register returning players, before taking new registrations.  This gives all of our loyal returning players the first opportunity to be part of the up and coming season.  In order to assist the Club in confirming numbers, we ask that you confirm your child’s intention to play or not play.

For those unsure which age group or team they may be earmarked, all players from last season will soon receive an email from the Club of their intended age group/team for this season, likely training dates, etc.

The Team we are keen to recruit for is the Under 16s.  We are on the lookout for another 4 to 5 Under 16 players so if there is anyone you know in that age group looking for a game please send them our way.  They’ll be in great hands with Sean Crisp being in charge as Coach.

At this pre-season stage the key Coaches/ Managers for each of the age groups and likely teams are still being finalized:

T20 Blast – Saturday mornings

Coach: Andrew Bath, Parents and Club Members.

Under 12 Modified – Saturday mornings (TBC)

Coach: Nick Macmillan.

Under 12 – Saturday mornings – Two Teams (grades to be determined)

Coaches and assistants: Rob Brown, Steve Grenda, Gerry Thiedeman and Ian Wilkinson.

Under 14 – Friday twilight

Coach: Craig Amoore.

Under 16 – Friday twilight

Coach: Sean Crisp.

Again, although we have some key coaches in place, the Junior Club is keen to have as many parents as possible involved.  Please feel free to ring me or one of the coaches if you are able to assist in a coaching/ management role, or indeed another role around the Club.  The Club is keen to support as many junior parents as possible to attain coaching accreditations and of course to have an input in the running of junior cricket.

In the build up to the season proper, some skills and registration sessions are planned and the complete training schedule will be advised shortly by the respective Team Managers/ Coaches.  The Junior Fixture Dates will come through in the next few weeks, with the first games likely to be the second weekend in October.

For our older Under 14’s and 16’s the Club will again be entering a lower grade Senior Team for them to play with some of our “experienced” Seniors.  This is a great forum to hone skills and will provide an opportunity for a few father and sons to have a game together; a great tradition at the Centrals.

To assist our publicizing and recruitment for the coming season we have produced an electronic flyer. The Club would be very pleased if members can forward to any interested families or groups they are part of.

If you wish to discuss any aspects of the coming Season, please do not hesitate to call me on 0407816896.
