Following our Premiership finish to last season, much planning and preparation has been underway for a successful 2023/24 Season.

In terms of upcoming season news, we have rightly been promoted to Woolnough Shield and the SECA has confirmed playing days and formats.  Our 1^st Eleven will start its campaign on the 7^th October, with further Senior Teams likely to commence on the 14^th of October.  

Our Club will be holding its AGM shortly, on Wednesday 16^th August 2023, at Hampton RSL, from 8pm.  The Club warmly welcomes all Members to attend and would be pleased to have some new recruits to the Club Committee. If you are interested please give me a call. 

The Executive Committee is also close to making some exciting announcements around the leadership, coaching and senior playing group for the coming season. Stay tuned!!

A critical issue from last year was the lack of players for the lower grades at times.  To avoid this issue and to assist with our best on-field planning, we kindly ask all members to respond and complete the survey which has been circulated by social media and email.  The Club is very keen to understand overall numbers and commitment and is striving to field enough teams for all levels of ability. The best way to alleviate this issue is of course to recruit some new players and juniors to play in the Seniors. We encourage all Members to also do this now!!

Please look out for messages from the Club in the weeks to come, with detail of registrations and pre-season training to be published.  To assist with early season sessions and often inclement weather, the Club is providing complimentary net use for Seniors early on Friday evenings in September, between 6 and 7pm, at Cricket HQ, Levanswell Road, Moorabbin. I encourage everyone to get along and make the most of this opportunity!!

Again, one of the difficult tasks we have had the last few seasons is getting timely supply of playing merchandise, particularly the personalized (sublimated) “Two Blues” playing tops.  This is likely to be an issue again, if orders are not in early. Hence we would like to take orders immediately and submit to the supplier by the 19^th of August 2023.  The Club will have some stock of standard playing Two Blues and White playing tops, if a personalized order is not made.

Another clothing order may go in as the season starts, but delivery could be slow, maybe > 8 weeks.

“Cheer Cheer the Good Ol Two Blues”

Particularly we’d like to acknowledge:

• the 40th reunion of the Under 16 1982-83 Premiership team
• the 40th reunion of the D Grade 1982-83 Premiership team

A huge milestone to celebrate on the day is Michael ‘Mick’ Devola reaching an unbelievable feat of 450 games of cricket. Mick has been a loyal and generous supporter for over 50 years and will have had a game with many in the Club over the years.

As we all know someone who has been impacted by cancer within our clubs, this is an important cause to get behind and it would be great to have the support of all members, playing and non-playing.

To acknowledge all members and their extended families who have been impacted, all players will wear a yellow arm band or yellow ribbon, and we will also be asking each player to make a gold coin donation towards the Cancer Council.

Following a challenging season last year, Ned is enthusiastic for the Club to build into the season and again have our teams in premiership contention.  With the support of our returning senior players and young talent coming through, there should be much to look forward to.

Jarrod Bradley – Club Specialist Cricket Coach

We welcome Jarrod Bradley to the Centrals as the Club’s Specialist Cricket Coach.  In this new role at the Club, Jarrod will work with individual and small groups of Seniors and Juniors at practice, on specific technique and skill development.

Over the past 15 seasons Jarrod has been doing individual coaching, similarly, with a strong emphasis on technique and skill development.  He has completed the Cricket Level 2 coaching course twice, and as a SEDA teacher was involved in a number of Cricket Australia professional development programs.

Jarrod is a seasoned and standout cricket, leading suburban Clubs to sustained success for a number of years.  He has been Captain Coach of some leading local Clubs including: Ferntree Gully CC, Parkdale United and Mulgrave CC (in 8 seasons there he played in 6 GF and won 5 consecutive 1st XI premierships, with the Club achieving 20 senior premierships during this time).

Over the past few years, he has held Senior and some Junior coaching roles at Le Page C.C. and has been crucial with their improvement and competiveness, winning three 1^st Eleven Premierships.

Jarrod is excited about the opportunity to work with our young and developing group and is keen to assist as many player as possible achieve their best!!

Stan Moraitis – Training and Club Coach

Stan is well known to many at the Club and is enthusiastic to assist our young Senior group, with training and practice support and mentoring for game day.

Moving to our Club a couple of years ago, Stan, has a long history in our Association.  A former Woolnough Captain and Junior Coordinator with Mackie and Club President at Melbourne Hellenic, Stan, has guided and assisted many Juniors and young people develop through Club cricket. 

Over his years of cricket Stan has also coached many Junior teams and has enjoyed seeing the talent rise and mature.  In particular, over the past 5 years he has coached the SECA Under 16 Representative Teams, with great success.  A number of Shields and many happy young men with the taste for greater honours as they enter Senior Cricket.

Stan, like many of our experienced players at the Club, is keen to foster a positive and supporting environment, with all having an opportunity to represent the Club at the highest level.

Ned performed outstandingly last season, opening the batting and leading the troops in our return to Woolnough Shield. He was a very worthy winner of the Club Champion (Bob Cave Award), as well as the Tony Devola Medal (image below).  The competitiveness of the team and development of our young talent last season was very much due to Ned’s encouragement and support.

Good luck to Ned as he leads the boys in the quest for our next First XI premiership!

An update to my earlier message.  We have now opened our portal on PlayCricket for everyone to register for Junior Blaster and Master Blaster, respectively.

The confirmed starting date is Saturday the 28th November 2021.  This is primarily due to COVID-19 density and social distancing concerns on all sporting grounds.

The venue is our home ground Simpson Reserve, Hampton and will resume Saturday mornings for the Junior Blasters.

The Club is planning to run a minimum of 6 sessions. The date(s), location, time of play, fixture and other details are all still subject to change, to be confirmed once more information around COVID-19 restrictions is known.  Cricket Australia has produced an “Anywhere Cricket Blast” online video and I believe this has been forwarded to all previous Cricket Blast participants.  Hopefully will encourage some drills and practice before outdoor Club sessions commence.

For Junior Blaster the price is the RRP of $99.  (The Club receives only $20 from the registration).  Please note if significant sessions are unable to proceed due to potential COVID-19 restrictions, there is a Cricket Australia refund policy.  Please note as per the policy, only monies less the cost of the participant pack will eligible for a refund.
